2005 update

Hi Gang,

We are looking forward to the Reunion on Saturday the 24th time seems to have flown by since our last meeting. I hope everyone is still healthy and well.

Our life has been quite hectic with our business which can be seen at www.kubinecstrapping.com we've managed to change an industry to a much safer system. We are very blessed by having God give me an idea that saves eyes, fingers, life threatening injuries and even death.

We are leaving Friday for South Africa for a business/pleasure trip and will return just after Labor Day, this will be our first "vacation" in about 6 years.

We just had our 2nd Grandchild and her name is Hannah her older sister, Emily is two years old.       Kubinecemilywall.JPG (31961 bytes)

I have also been working out and on a strict regiment of diet and exercise.KubinecBobBody.jpg (39739 bytes).

Take care and we look forward to our upcoming visit.

 God Bless,

 Bob

2001 Update

I am looking forward to our class re-union on the12th of May. It has really been a long time since I have seen any of my old, and I don't mean old, the way it sounds, classmates.

I moved back from California in 1994 and settled in Farmington for a short time. I had been divorced for about 5 years, and met a wonderful gal named Shirley. We met at a singles gathering at a church in Northville. She is the best thing to ever happen to me. I never had children, however I now have two wonderful step sons. Brian is a physical therapist and lives in Farmington. Christopher is a computer animator and creates commercials for some well known corporations like Art Van, etc. I am blessed if I could have chosen two young men to be my sons, it would without a doubt been them.

I have spent the last roughly 20 years working for the strapping industry, both steel and plastic as a salesman. I had an idea to replace dangerous steel strapping with a woven material like a seat belt or something similar. The last three years have been very wonderful, however nothing comes easy as we all know. We now have some major accounts such as Carter Lumber and Wickes Lumber along with many other independent yards using our product and loving it. We are quite proud of our ( Gentle Giant ) as it is a safer and better mousetrap.

Shirley works for the City of Novi and will be joining our company "Strap & Wrap" the end of this year. She works in the treasury Dept. and is looking forward to leaving such a stressful job.

I still dabble in music I do some writing and playing for my own enjoyment.

August 2005

My wife Rose and I have been blessed with 4 children and 12 grandchildren.
I have always had an interest in antique cars so going into the car business was an easy choice. As the business grew, I also rented Antique cars to the movie industry in South Carolina. It was a lot of fun but it was also a lot of work. While selling Cars I started selling trailers and the business has grown into 6 dealerships in Michigan and Ohio. My children are now running the family business, as I am happily retired.

August 2005

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary by traveling to Australia in March 2004. In June 2004 our youngest daughter, Elise, married Keith Yost here in Farmington at Our Lady of Sorrows.  Andrea married Scott Bray in April 2005 at Our Lady of Sorrows.

Lubaway05.jpg (143303 bytes)

We vacationed in California in May 2003 traveling from San Francisco to Los Angeles with a stop at Camp Roberts where Bill's dad received basic training before shipping out to Okinawa where he met his demise. Bill's last visit to Camp Roberts was in 1944. Along the way we visited Tom Morasky, Mike Harrington and Mike Selwa.

2001 Update

Bill and Diane were married at St. Mary’s Church in 1964 after they graduated from college. Bill earned a degree in accounting and an MBA from the University of Detroit. Diane earned a degree in art with minors in English and education from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo. Their three daughters all graduated from MSU – Hope is a social worker; Andrea is a headhunter and Elise is a first/second grade teacher. Our first grandchild, William Frank Dudek courtesy of Hope and Kurt, arrived in August 2002. Their daughter Mia was born in September 2004.

Bill relishes self-employment as a healthcare financial consultant. He and his partner, Joe, employ 15 people who help hospitals all over Michigan straighten out their finances. He has specialized in healthcare finance for over 30 years. His avocation is computers.

Diane retired from teaching English Lit and Art to high school dropouts. Seeing my students "finally" get their diplomas made teaching very rewarding – although sometimes I wondered if I’d make it to the end of the school year. She is an avid gardener and all around artist.

We have lived in our dream house for over 25 years. Our shared hobby is travel. Lamont and Margo have been to Europe, Hawaii (where we had dinner with Sandy Diehl Kelly), Costa Rica, the Caribbean and 25 of the 50 states. Most of all, we take delight in our cottage in Traverse City. We use it all year ‘round and always cart along our pets – Sophie, Jamie and Gus.

Hugo Madsen

Bev and Hugo have retired and moved to Acme, MI which is just outside of Traverse City.

August 2005

Paul and I are now living in the Upper Peninsula near Sault Ste. Marie, Ml. We live on Neebish Island, that is North of Drummond Island and South of Sugar Island. We live on the St. Mary’s River, where the freighters go by our house. We love it. It does get very cold here in the winter. The river freezes over and we get on and off the island by snowmobile or four-wheel vehicles instead of the ferry.

We have four children, Tom, Paul C., Tony and Angela. We are the proud grandparents of 10 grandchildren, ages 7 months - 17 yrs. All are fortunately healthy. In that ‘mix’ we have a skilled tradesman at Rouge Steel, two pharmacists, an engineer, a daughter-in-law that that works with retarded adults, a worker’s comp administrator and a safety expert at Visteon. It’s a wild time when we all get together.

We own 2 dogs, Italian Spinones. They are hunting dogs with a very good nature and disposition. We used to breed them, but then they got too old to breed. So, now we just enjoy them.

I am finishing my second year as president of the Ladies’ group on the island. Someone else’s turn now. Paul is Vice Chairman of the Retiree’s chapter of the Union group (UAW).

Paul spent more than 35 yrs working in the factory, but is now retired. I worked in an allergy clinic for several years, but quit when all our children were married and on their own.

We are always ready for company and fun.

Ann (McDermott) Landini

2001 Update

We are all fine here. Ice is starting to form on the river, so the next thing is for the freighters to stop running, which is on Jan. 25, and then we will see if it gets cold enough for the entire river to freeze. Then we start leaving the island by snowmobile. Mom says she is feeling her age, she'll be 89 on Jan. 16. She is getting slower but o.k.  Our daughter and her two, 3 & 5, just left. Boy, are we tired.

We are also in a travel club. We go to various campgrounds around Michigan with a lot of real nice people. All of us own Travel Supreme fifth wheels. Ours is a 34 foot fifth wheel, which we enjoy a lot; it’s like a home on wheels.

We are also in a rare breed dog club; we own an Italian Spinone. Franci is a hunting dog that has her own personality. It is just amazing how an animal can become part of the family even though there are children running all over the place. It seems like we have always owned a dog for most of our married life.

Our vacations have taken us from Colorado to New Jersey and a lot of states in between. Sometimes our “brood” can follow us in their trailers or pop—up campers . . . lots of fun and chaos with all the kids and all their dogs, too.

Pat Molitor Brummel duane@mailbag.com

Since graduation I moved to Madison, Wisconsin where I attended a technical college to obtain my degree to become a licensed practical nurse. In June of 1965 I married Duane Brummel and we had eight children (four boys and four girls) over the next sixteen years. While Duane worked for IBM I was able to stay home to raise the children. He retired in 1995 and passed away from prostate cancer in March of 1999. Three of our children are still living at home and three others live nearby. The oldest four are married and have nine children between them. I have had a truly blessed life. Molitor.jpg (65255 bytes)

Some of my interests and hobbies are sewing and other related crafts, reading, motorcycling and gardening during warm weather and traveling. Much of my time is taken up with family activities.

My mother moved to this area after my father died in 1972 and I also have a brother and a sister who live nearby. I occasionally get back to Wayne to visit brothers who still live in Michigan but have not had contact with any classmates for several years now. I will be very interested to see where everyone ended up and how they are doing. I also understand that several classmates have died. Do you have any information on when or how they died?

I sincerely hope that you have a good turnout for the upcoming reunion. Hello  to everyone in attendance.

Tom Morasky Tommmorasky@aol.com

Tom met Bill & Diane Lubaway at a 50's style restaurant decorated with an Edsel and treated them to drinks and a mini tour of downtown San Francisco by cable car and street car.  Tom and Diane posed for a picture in front of a harbor full of seals. Tom's wife Marge wasn't able to join us due to an accumulation of health issues -- prayers appreciated. Tom works in the power generation business . . . he has some good deals if you need a nuclear power turbine.

It was great hearing from you. I am sorry I have put you through so much trouble searching for me. I really am not hiding from anyone and didn't realize I was so hard to locate. Planning a reunion takes a lot of effort and time. I didn't need to add to your workload. Your perseverance has paid off.... and you didn't waste $29.50. I hope all is well with you and your family.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the subject reunion on May 12. My youngest son is 15 years old and is still in school. He is going through his rebellion stage. (No way my wife and I could leave him alone at home.) I really am too old for these teenage problems. I should have started earlier raising a family and really should be enjoying grandchildren at this stage of my life. I just heard from my daughter at San Diego State University. You were right; she does play on SDSU women's water polo team. She was forwarded your email to her coach. How did you ever find her name? You should be a detective.

Please keep me posted regarding the success and details of the reunion. I would love to hear about everyone. As I get older, I find myself thinking more frequently of the early days. Give my love to everyone.

2005 update

I am late replying and wasn't going to write the story of my life until I read the box "No. I don't have a life". I had to reply since I have had a very good life. I worked with the airlines for 15 years and then changed careers and retired as a financial counselor at a Catholic Healthcare Hospital. I have 2 great kids. Tony is single and living in Seattle. Alisa lives in Santa Monica, CA and has four children. The last child, Luke (Luca), was born last year in Rome, Italy while Jon was teaching an engineering course at the university. Vince and I were with them for three months and we took forward to going back. It was a great experience for all of us. Tony, keeping with the O'Leary tradition is working with United Airlines in cargo sales.

After retiring in California we moved to Las Vegas, NV. We both enjoy Nevada and the neighboring states. We don't gamble, but enjoy visiting the Utah, Arizona and Nevada Parks. Vince still works in the San Francisco bay area during the tax season and that gives me time to visit with my family. I look forward to the reunion.

Prior update

Vince and I are enjoying our retirement in Las Vegas. Our son, Tony, recently joined us in Las Vegas and our daughter Alisa is in Santa Monica. We get to see her and her three girls quite often since they are about 4 hr drive away.

I am so sorry I couldn't make the reunion in 2000 I received the pictures, thanks to Bill and Diane Lubaway, and looked like everyone was having a great time. Maybe we can make the next one in 2005. With my big family from St Mary's I keep up with the news, but I would like hear from you.

If anyone is in Las Vegas please give us a call. We only go to the casino when someone is in town, which helps for the prosperous new year. Being a local we get discounts on many shows and are offered 2fers quite often.

After graduation, following a family tradition, I went to work for United Airlines in Chicago.  There I met my husband of 36 yrs, Vince.  We moved to San Francisco and lived there until last fall when we moved to Las Vegas.  We have two children.  Alisa is married with two beautiful girls and is expecting another child in the fall.  Alisa majored in engineering at U C Berkeley and plans to continue her career after the children are older.  She and her husband Jon live in Santa Monica where Jon is a professor in geotechnical engineering at UCLA.  Tony is still single and lives in the San Francisco bay area working for United Airlines.  With the housing market booming in San Francisco, we would like to see Tony move out of the bay area.  San Francisco is a beautiful city and it is hard for a young person to leave.

After 15 yrs working for the airlines I went into the medical field.  I worked 15 yrs as a financial counselor for a hospital and retired in October 1999.  Vince retired from Delta Airlines but still works with taxes.  He still has his business in the bay area and returns there during the tax season.   After we are settled in I expect to work part time with a Catholic healthcare facility in the Las Vegas area.

We really enjoy living in Henderson but don't enjoy all the new building.  I guess, since Henderson is the fastest growing city, we should have expected that.

If anyone finds themselves in Las Vegas please call.

Love and God bless,

Kathleen O'Leary Facchini
