Variable Investment Analyst (V.I.A.), is where it all began, about 1990. It was an MS-DOS program, originally written to take advantage of the more limited memory and power of the older XT class computers. Eventually, it was rewritten from the ground up for 32-bit Windows platforms, as Horizon Investment Analyst.
Variable Investment Analyst has similar features as the windows version, including Basis worksheets, charts, pull down menus, dialog boxes, mouse support, etc.
News! (06/2003): New version 6.00 changes the 'Combined IRR' option to also print the total value of the portfolio, and other aggregate statistics.
See Readme.doc for details.
News! (12/2002): Version 5.99 fixed a nasty bug that caused the program to crash when you changed a transaction record, added new Printer/page setup options, 2 new columns ('Record Type' and 'Error') when 'Listing' an investment to disk file, transaction record date & arithmetic error warnings, explanation of 'How date ranges affect calculations', bug fixes, and many other enhancements. The Variable Investment Analyst and Horizon Investment Analyst can also now share the same data files.
