WORKERS COMPENSATION

Michigan's Workers Compensation laws provide compensation for injuries occurring in the workplace. If you are injured at work, it is important to report that injury immediately to your employer. Compensation is based on a percentage of your average earnings, and accrues one week after the onset of disability.

If directed by your employer, you must commence treatment with a physician of your employer's choosing. After 10 days from the commencement of medical care, you may treat with a physician of your choice by giving to your employer the name of the physician and telling your employer that you intend to seek treatment for your injury from him.

If you have a dispute concerning compensation, or if you are concerned that you are not being treated fairly by your employer's worker's compensation insurance carrier, you may seek either mediation or further help through the Workers Compensation Bureau. An Attorney's assistance with regard to your claim may be the difference between success and failure to get relief.
