February 6 - Religion and Politics I
Those running for political office often do so as men and women of faith. But faith in what? This election cycle, perhaps more than any other in recent history, has candidates talking about their faith. What is the intersection of faith and politics? We'll discuss this over three weeks with Rev. Carlson.

February 27 What is Family Camp?
Come to this informal class to find out why families keep flocking back to Family Camp each year. Deb Major will share information about this exciting weekend.

March 3 "The System Belongs to God"
A seven session video series hosted by noted author Walter Wink and two other ministers. This series is an analysis and discussion about the role of the "principalities and powers" both in the Bible and today. During each session we will view a video and have a discussion facilitated by Scott Wilkerson in Room 108.
1. The Way Things Are: Jesus has a better way than the way things are; he calls it the Kingdom of God.

2/10 - 2. God Won't Give Up:
What if indifferent and sometimes evil-seeming institutions were created good? Perhaps, like us, they can be redeemed. Institutions, including companies and churches can be good, fallen, and redeemed all at the same time.

2/17- 3. What Jesus Really Said
A new understanding of "turning the other cheek."

2/24 - 4. How to Fight without Hitting
How to resist evil without doing evil, turn our weaknesses into strengths, and love our enemies. This is the concept of non-violent resistance.

3/2 - 5. Institutional Angels
What if Nations, Companies and Churches had Angels? Every institution, from nations to families, has a spirit and it can change.

3/9 - 6. How You See the World
Our view of the world determines how we see God.

3/16 - 7. Praying for the Big Picture
Why our prayers may not be answered and what to do about it. Making palm crosses

3/23 Easter Sunday - No C.E.

3/30 Outlaws Part 1
The story of Jesus often puts him in close contact with outsiders and criminals. What are we to make of this association? In week one, we look at King David's career as a bandit and law-breaker before becoming king. This three part series will be led by the Rev. Carlson.

4/6 Outlaws Part 2
American bandits - Billy the Kid and Jesse James.

4/13 Outlaws Part 3
Jesus and what it means to obey a higher law.

4/20 - 1. Biology of Sexual Orientation
This 5 week series opens with Marc Breedlove, Barnett Professor of Neuroscience, MSU.

4/27 - 2. Jesus, The Bible, & Homosexuality
Preface and Chapters 1 & 2

We will explore this issue through the book of the same title by Jack Rogers, Professor of Theology Emeritus at San Francisco Theological Seminary (Presbyterian) and Moderator of the 213th General Assembly as well as current scientific thinking through a video which explores the experiences of several Presbyterian families and congregations. The book will be available for purchase and all participants are strongly encouraged to read it beforehand.
