The school year is filled with a variety of activities that serve to enhance and encourage the students learning and encourage then to feel like a cohesive unit.

• CAMPING Every fall the whole school spends two days getting to know one another, which really sets the tone for the school year. Traditionally, the girls go to a local camp facility and work on character building activities. The boys spend two days camping and canoeing on the White River, working on the same objectives.

• STUDENT COUNCIL In the fall of each year students are chosen to represent their peers. A president, vice president, treasurer and class representatives make up this council. Meetings are held weekly to discuss student activities and concerns.

• SCHOOL NEWSPAPER Once a month journalism students at Oceana put out a school newspaper. It is filled with pictures and articles of school activities. This is a product of journalism class which meets every day.

• INTRAMURAL ACTIVITIES Students at Oceana High School have the opportunity throughout the school year to participate with other alternative schools in the following activities:

  • Fall- Boy's Flag Football
  • December- Girl's Volleyball
  • Winter- Boy's Basketball
  • Spring- Softball

• PARTIES Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day parties are planned, as well as an all-school picnic and other various celebrations throughout the year

• QUIZ BOWL Each year students participate in the Oceana Quiz Bowl Invitational. The students from Oceana compete with students from other district. Students are chosen for their ability to answer sample questions and perform in pressure situations.

• ANNUAL TRIP Each spring students and staff take a one day trip. It is organized and paid for by the student council and used to strengthen social skills and broaden the students view of the world.

• PROM One of the highlight of the school year is the annual prom. The entire student body is welcome and a king and queen is chosen from the seniors. A week of preparation is done to transform the gym into a magical world for this special night. This is also a student council funded event

• GRADUATION Each May the gym is packed to overflowing with proud parents and friends of our graduates. Students receive an accredited diploma from the state of Michigan. This is a very moving event as staff and students have become close over the years.
