Celebrating New Life after Divorce
New Horizons Weekend of
Healing
Early explorers viewed the horizon as a doorway to a new
country, a new life with new opportunities. This weekend
is your doorway into a new future.
Frequently Asked
Questions
1. What is the New Horizons weekend?
- The New Horizons experience is an
opportunity for you: a divorced person in and around
southeast Wisconsin, to pause and examine your
life--your strengths and weaknesses, your hurts,
desires, ambitions, disappointments, joys, and frustrations. This
is done openly and honestly in a Christ-like manner. It is a
weekend away from the tensions of everyday living. It is a time
for listening and talking--to yourself, to others, to
God.
The New Horizons experience is designed to
help each participant embark upon a new phase of life. While
special attention is given to the spiritual aspects of our
experience, the weekend is meant to provide the participant with a
comprehensive sense of direction on this journey.
2. Who is it for?
- The New Horizons Weekend is for those men
and women, already divorced, who want to discover a new life
and have already started to grow in this direction. Those divorced
either recently or for years will find the weekend rewarding.
This program can also be beneficial for those who have
experienced a long term separation with no chance of reconciliation.
Please contact Marie Grevsmuehl, Adult &
Family Ministry, for further details.
3. Where is the weekend held?
- The New Horizons Weekend meets at one of
several retreat centers in Southeast Wisconsin. The retreat center
assigned to each weekend is given in the
retreat calendar. Approximate geography can be inferred from
the retreat map.
4. What happens on the weekend?
- The New Horizons Weekend is directed by a
team of divorced persons, along with a chaplain. It runs from
Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. The structure of the
weekend consists of:
- Presentations: These are given by members
of the team and describe experiences which relate to different
aspects of marriage; and the experience of separation and divorce.
- Personal Reflections: You are given
private time to reflect on your own experiences.
- Small Group Sharing: The group setting
affords you the opportunity to rediscover the strengths and
joys of life within yourself and with others. You share only
what you choose to in a comfortable and safe environment.
The weekend is not a retreat in the sense of being a two-day
withdrawal from the world. It is a weekend of
involvement.
5. How much does it cost?
- The cost is $150.00. This includes the entire
weekend, five meals
and lodging. Dress is casual. Financial assistance is
available.

was adopted by the early Christians as a sign of
new life in Christ. The ONCA has also been adopted
by New Horizons as its symbol.
The arc traversing the lower part of the figure
represents the horizon of a new day. The combined
symbols are centered in an oval, the shape which
signifies wholeness and the beginning of new life.
