Star Wars
The first time I saw "Star Wars: The
Adventures of Luke Skywalker was in 1977. My Mother thought maybe
it was a little grown up for a 9 year old so she made me read the
book first, to see if I understood it. I did understand the story,
and my older sister, Lisa, took me to see it at a Drive in Theatre
near Battle Creek, Michigan. I was hooked ever since.
After reading most of the Star Wars
books that followed, and playing Knights of the Old republic and
Sith Lords, a group of friends decided I was qualified to GM a
campaign. Thus, the story begins! We are using material from several versions of Traveller to flesh out the Star Wars universe, and provide detailed regions for the heroes to explore.
The Characters
Designing characters is always
challenging, and usually fun, especially when 2 of the group have
never played an Role-Playing Game before, let alone know about Star
Wars. The Campaign is set in the New Jedi order Era, but the
Yuuzhan Vong have not invaded yet. I figured it's not a good idea
to scare the players off before they even get started.
Namera Zatun: Namera's player
saw all six movies, and hears me talk some about the books, but
doesn't really know anything beyond the movies, and what she sees
me do in Knights of the Old Republic. She decided to be a human
noble, from Telos, and be Force Sensitive, so she can be trained
later as a Jedi. Namera is eager to explore the Post-Imperial
Galaxy, and meet the heroes of the Rebellion.
Taki Offee: Taki's player loves
the Clone Wars adventures but says there is no point in even trying
to play in that era because no matter what you do, Darth Vader or
The Emperor will kill you. Her player looked over my Clone Wars
Novels, and picked "Medstar I: Battle Surgeons", pointed to the
cover and announced that a Jedi on the cover was her grandmother.
Fortunately, Revenge of the Sith did not show Barriss Offee being
killed, so I asked her to make a story about how Barriss could be
her grandmother. Taki developed the most detailed background of any
character. Her grandmother hid on the jungle moon of Mimban, away
from the areas that would be settled during the Imperial
Occupation. A single soldier refused to leave her when she went
into exile and they had a son that joined the Rebellion after the
"Splinter of the Minds Eye" book takes place. Her parents met
escaping from Hoth, and Taki was born less than a year after the
battle of Endor. Taki is certain that her grandmother is dead, but
hopes to learn something on her adventures.
Jennyria Ryal: Jennyria is a
human New Republic Soldier from Onderon. She is the strongest of
the heroes, and the best pilot. Jennyria is currently not on active
duty, so adventures to keep her skills from slipping. Jennyria is
also determined to prove that you don't have to be a Jedi to be a
hero.
Monnda Teeg: Monnda is the only
male in this group. he is a Duros Tech Specialist. Monnda's player
has no experience with RPG's not on a computer. He saw that blaster
pistols wasn't a class skill, so decided Monnda would be a
pacifist. he did not take blaster pistols as a proficiency, so
started the game with just a pair of combat gloves. After bungling
his way to 3rd level, Jennyria taught him to use a blaster pistol.
He keeps it set on stun. Monnda is a master mechanic and computer
whiz. He can fix anything. Monnda built a Medical Droid, ZEM-212-1B but replaced her with a supped up Power Droid, 2XLEG-6
Genevus Lightkin: Genevus is an
athletic woman that calls Bespin her home. She is her father's only
child, and accompanied him on hunting trips across the outer rim.
Genevus prefers wilderness adventures and feels uncomfortable on
city worlds, like Coruscant and Nar Shaddaa.
2XLEG-6: Monnda built this enhanced power droid to help him repair starships. 2XL follows the Shipjacker class from Heroes Guide. The power droid is equipped with a holoprojector and a vocabulator. He calls Monnda "Daddy".
Doneeta Surool: Doneeta is a
Twi´lek scoundrel. She is the tallest member of the party,
being 1.9 meters tall. Doneeta has mastered the skills required to
get a man to give her what she wants.
Quetzalli True: Quetzalli is
the shortest member of the party, being 1.2 meters tall. She is an
urban adept from a declining world in the Spinward marches. Her
homeworld's population has declined 60% in the last 200 years.
Mira Edora: Mira is a Cerean Force Adept from the Gateway District. She moved to Daggar's Edge early in her life to be trained by a experienced force master. She wants to see more of the universe.
Kalmor: A Ithorian Jedi Consular. Kalmor uses his smooth, stereo voice to talk his way into and out of interesting situations. Like all Ithorians, Kalmor is fond of nature, and serenity. He is fully aware, though, that nature can be a cruel mistress.
The Adventures
Annic Nova
The party meets for the first time
when Taki and Jennyria arrive at Telos. An alien ship has been
reported at Toprawa, Ord Radama, and now Telos. The New Republic
had tried contacting it at both systems, but the ship entered
hyperspace before it could be boarded. Jennyria came, representing
the new republic, and Taki came at the request of Master Skywalker,
on Yavin. They approach Namera, hoping to use her family shuttle to
sneak up on the alien vessel. They meet Genevus Lightkin at the
starport, and Monnda Teeg and ZEM-212-1B. Monnda agrees to use his
skills to run the ship silently.
The party approaches the alien ship
from behind. The ship looks like nothing they have seen before,
Namera and Genevus compare it's appearance to several sea creatures
they are familiar with. Taki and Monnda make several attempts to
contact the vessel but receive no response. Monnda reports the
sensors detect life but cannot distinguish the nature. He points
out that is scattered amongst the ship but concentrated in one
location of a single deck. Taki uses her force sense to verify that
it is not a life form she can identify through the force.
The party manages to board the ship
through a cargo hatch. They find the ship has two large cargo
holds, and find the living quarters, which they find to be
deserted. They find a vidscreen that has several channels,
including one that has lessons for children. The Technology is over
1,000 years old. The party finds the bridge and manages to shut
down the hyperdrive engine. Monnda decides to watch the vidscreen
for a while, to see if he can learn the language for the alien
crew. He manages to learn how to pilot the ship. Monnda learns the
aliens were from a culture that had only recently discovered
hyperdrive. They launched their mission to explore space a month
after the battle of Yavin. They encountered the Force Witches at
Dathomir, and then encountered a fatal disease that killed off the
crew. Monnda and Taki conclude that they must have detected the
virus on their scans. They search the living quarters, and find
some children's toys. The discovery of the kids play room proves
upsetting to Namera, and she breaks down. The party finds a room
that has a child's drawing of a symbol for danger. a scan of the
room shows this is the source of the life form readings. ZEM-21
scans the data and announces it is a disease the Republic has a
cure for, but the cure was discovered after the battle of Hoth.
Monnda uses the ships computer to purge the disease and the party
takes the ship back to Yavin IV.
Shadows
When the party gets the alien ship in
orbit about Yavin IV, they get caught by a tractor beam. The
Tractor beam is coming from a ruined temple on the opposite side of
the moon from the academy.
The party sets down near the temple,
and starts exploring. They find a hidden entrance that leads
inside. They find the inside of the pyramids to be inhabited by
wild animals, including snakes, bats, and rats. In the fighting,
Monnda realizes his mistake in not learning to shoot a blaster. he
has to stomp on the creatures and shouts so much that Genevus
accuses him of being a biological version of C3-P0. Jennyria
announces she will teach him to shoot a blaster one way or another.
Monnda decides to return toe the shuttle and let Taki accompany the
party inside the temple.
The party finds several murals, that
identify the ancient Massani builders of the temple. They also find
a secret passage leading down under a third ziggurat, and find the
control center at it's end. Monnda uses the commlinks to tell Taki
how to shut off the tractor beam, so the party can take the ship to
the academy on the other side of the moon. They meet Doneeta and
Quetzalli while they are here.
Casual Encounters
Namera meets Luke Skywalker, and
learns she has the potential to become a Jedi. Taki is given her
next assignment. A young Moff is visiting from the Imperial
Remnant. Master Skywalker wants Taki to protect the Moff while he
is visiting the New Republic.
The Moff proves to be arrogant and
selfish. He decides Doneeta was assigned to be his personal
servant, and pays little attention to Taki, Jennyria, Genevus, and
Quetzalli. The party learns of an anit-Imperial demonstration that
is supposed to take place. Doneeta stays with the Moff, while Taki,
Jennyria, Genevus, and Quetzalli find where the rally is being
organized and manage to diffuse it with diplomacy. A single
assassin Droid makes an attempt to assassinate the Moff, but
Jennyria destroys the Droid while Taki deflects the attacks with
her lightsabre.
While Taki and the others are
escorting the Moff, Namera gets some basic training. While
training, her cousin arrives at Yavin, and asks Namera if she can
help. He has bought a yacht from a bankrupt noble that could not
afford to have the yacht completed. He asks Namera to fly his
unfinished yacht to Bandomeer, where it can be completed. He tells
Namera that the ship can be refueled at Toprawa, and he will pay
for her passage back to Yavin. He also warns Namera that only two
of the cabins have been finished so only two people and a Droid
should attempt the voyage.
Namera, Monnda, and ZEM-21 travel to
Telos on a subsidized liner. Namera meets an old friend from her
school days. They arrive at Telos, and find just how little of the
ship has been actually finished. Monnda announces it will be
difficult just keeping the incomplete hull together as they fly
through hyperspace. Shortly after leaving Telos, ZEM-21 discovers
they have a stowaway aboard. Namera recognizes the boy as the son
of a noble from Telos. The boys father is a selfish man that would
arrest her and Monnda for kidnapping to save face from his son
running away. When the boy asks for passage to Bandomeer, Namera
and Monnda reluctantly agree to take the boy to Bandomeer. When the
ship stops at Toprawa, Namera uses her skills to bluff their way
through the refueling. She and Monnda manage to prevent the boys
discovery. Namera uses her skills as a beautician to get the boy
through security at Bandomeer, where she convinces him to tell his
father he has come to live with his uncle.
Mission on Mithril
After a six week tour, the Moff
returns to the Imperial Remnant. The party takes him back in the
alien ship, which they have been allowed to keep. When they try to
return to the New Republic, they are brought out of hyperspace by
an interdictor field. A group of pirates have stolen an interdictor
field and attack them with a lancer. The party fights off the
lancer, and escapes into hyperspace before any more lancers can
arrive. They stop at a nearby system, controlled by the imperial
remnant, to repair their ship, and refuel. The base commander
agrees to let them use his facility if they complete a planetary
survey for him. He produces a map of the world, and points to three
places on it. One is a site with a high radioactive reading. One is
a depression that orbital survey cannot identify, and the third is
an area of coast that is not ice covered when other coasts at this
latitude are. He wants them to find out why.
Namera, Jennyria, Taki, and Genevus
undertake this mission. They ride across the small world's surface
in a landspeeder. They arrive at the shoreline first. Genevus
notices the directions of the currents and announces that this is a
natural occurrence - warmer waters are coming from the south and
causing the area to be frost free. The party then travels to the
area with the radioactive readings. They discover a radioactive
waste dump. The party manages to find some writing that indicates
that the waste was left by an ancient race, the Rakata. They find
that the mysterious well was also man-made, also placed by the
Rakata. The party returns to the Imperial base and files their
report. The base commander gives them thee full resources of his
base to complete their repairs and return home.
Casual Encounters
Jennyria's former commander, Hensen
Cord, calls Jennyria back to active Duty. A cell of rebels,
supporting Kueller, have been located on a world near Hutt Space.
Cord drafts Jennyria, Monnda, Quetzalli, and Taki, to help drive
the rebels off the world of Tarkine. The party arrives on Tarkine
during a battle. They get separated from Hensen Cord and the rest
of the squad. Jennyria takes the heroes to complete the
mission.
When the party finds the bunker, Taki,
and Quetzalli manage to use the force to get past the first guard.
The second guard needs additional persuasion, so they convince him
they are reinforcements. The rebel commander, a dark Force adept,
nicknamed 'Red' recognizes Taki, ands starts a fight. The fight
starts well for the heroes and Jennyria kills Red with her Vibro
Dagger. The fight soon bogs down in the bunker's makeshift
vestibule.
The party manages to break out of the
vestibule, and Quetzalli and Taki kill the rebels
second-in-command, a crime lord, named Gattix. Monnda manages to
plant the explosives, and the party escapes. They re-unite with
Cord, and find the rest of the squad had 2 killed, and another
wounded. The party returns to Yavin, and Jennyria returns to
inactive duty.
Across the Bright Face
While Jennyria, Monnda, Taki, and
Quetzalli are fighting Kueller's rebellion, Doneeta receives a
message from her brother, Griff, that he is engaged, and he wants
her to travel to the corporate sector to meet his fiance,
Cyrty'en.
The party travels to an airless world
orbiting a super giant star, and then travels to the city of
Medianoe, to meet Cyrty'en. They meet Mira Edora, a Spirit Adept from
The Gateway District. She has run away from the world she calls
home. While Griff negotiates a purchase of some tracked mining
vessels, a riot breaks out, and Griff uses the commlinks to tell
the party he is fleeing via monorail. The party boards one of the
tracked mining vessels, and drives across the airless surface. The
party gets lost early on, but Genevus finds their actual location
and gets them back on track. They encounter a group of five workers
that demand their surrender. In the fire fight that follows, two
workers are stunned, and three are killed. The party arrives at
Rhylan Starport, and finds that the entire world is in revolt.
Namera uses her diplomatic skills to talk their way to safety and
obtain transport off world for themselves, Griff, and Cyrty'en.
The heroes earn some well deserved
down time after their last adventures. Namera accompanies her
boyfriend on a hunting trip. Jennyria and Doneeta spend a lot of
time singing and dancing at lounges. Genevus introduces Jennyria to
the brutal sport of Gravity Ball. Monnda spends most of his time
building a power Droid, 2XLEG-6. He meets a spirit Adept,
who left her home in the Glimmerdrift Reaches, to see more of the
universe. Mira and Monnda hit it off and start dating.
The Death Station
Namera, Taki, Quetzalli, Jennyria,
Genevus, and Monnda learn that a research space station has broken
communication with the world it orbits. The company sponsoring the
space station fears the worst and asks the heroes to find the cause
of the blackout and see if there are any survivors to be
rescued.
The party boards the station through
one of the air/raft bays. They find many of the light fixtures are
smashed. The party searches the space station and finds a surviving
Duros scientist hiding in the lab. The scientist explains there was
an explosion on the station and she has been hiding from the other
survivors. She has lived off the laboratory animals they once had,
but the others have been eating dead crew members. She begs the
heroes to take her away from the station before the other survivors
find them.
The party decides to search the
station for the other survivors. When the scientist gets agitated,
Taki and Namera combine their diplomacy with the force to keep her
calm. On discovering that light now hurts her eyes, Monnda and
Quetzalli move ahead of the party and shut off lights as they
explore. Monnda uses the computers to find that the station had
been researching five chemicals used to make stronger and faster
soldiers. The station received visits from Republic, and Imperial
Remnant military that were interested in the experiments. The party
determines that an explosion caused the survivors to breath in all
five chemicals, and this reduced them to savagery.
When Monnda and Quetzalli find a
second survivor, the Rodian scientist tells them a story almost
identical to the story told by the first scientist. Quetzalli
decides both scientists are lying, that all survivors have been
eating dead crew members. She uses her Diplomacy and Force Skills
to calm the Rodian. The party takes the Duros to their ship and
isolates her in one quarters, and puts the Rodian in another
quarters.
The party finds a Gamorean, who has
additional reasons for wanting to hide her cannibalism. Namera,
Taki, and Quetzalli use their diplomacy skills, and the force to
keep her calm and get her to separate crew quarters. They find
where the Bothan saboteur had opened a passage into the Jeffrey
Tubes. Taki, Quetzalli, and Jennyria go into the crawl spaces after
her.
When the trio encounters the
Navigator, she regards them as fresh food. Jennyria manages to
intimidate her enough to buy time for Taki and Quetzalli to calm
her with diplomacy and the force. They take her back to their ship,
and arrange for a medical team to deliver an antidote for the
chemicals they inhaled.
Casual Encounters
Doneeta, Mira, and Monnda's enhanced power droid, 2XLEG-6 frequent spaceport bars, looking for work. A nervous merchant, named John Smith, approaches them, and asks them to help. He tells them that during the close of the Galactic Civil War, he invented something that would make him rich. His invention was lost, and he had to rebuild it. In that time, the original invention was found by a competitor, Anselm Beauchamp. Mr. Smith needed the party to meet Beauchamp at the starport, and keep him from going to the patent office for three days after his arrival, so Mr. Smith could finish patenting his invention. The heroes agree to help.
Doneeta and 2XL decide to investigate Mr. Beauchamp. They find he owns a local fleet of merchant ships that frequents the area around Regina, in the Spinward Marches. They also find personal information about him that cause them to label him a "Grade A Sleaze".
The conspiracy to keep Mr. Beauchamp from the patent office begins with 2XL arranging for a garbage scow to dump it's load on the landing port that Beauchamp's ship was to dock at. When the starport scrambles to make new landing arrangements, Mira and Doneeta meet Beauchamp at the new landing area, and pose as his driver and courtesy escort. They find that Beauchamp is accompanied by a Cerean secretary, and two Twi' lek body guards. They take Beauchamp to a hotel that caters lavish parties.
Mira and Doneeta convince the bodyguards that their services are not really needed, and encourage them to frequent the hotel lounge. Mira accompanies them, and encourages them to get drunk. 2XL and Mira then convince the guards that Beauchamp is drunk and boarding a freighter that is about to leave the planet. The guards rush aboard the robot crewed freighter and are out of the picture.
Doneeta and 2XL then keep Beauchamp occupied, while Mira convinces the secretary that her boss is just using her, and doesn't really love her. Mira convinces the Cerean to leave Beauchamp, and leave his sensitive documents with her, because without Beauchamp, a large number of worlds would lose a large amount of off world trade.
Doneeta and 2Xl examine the files and find that Beauchamp has 4 wives on 4 different worlds. They also find that almost 70% of his employees are women. They also find Beauchamp had been altering his books a great deal. Doneeta decides to copy the information and give it to Mr. Smith. They occupy Mr. Beauchamp one last day, then sneak off while he is asleep. John Smith is grateful for their help. In exchange for buying him time, and delivering the information about Beauchamp, Mr. Smith arranges for 300 tons of freight to be shipped on the heroes ship, allowing them to keep the profits. Doneeta decides that Mr. Beauchamp's weakness could make a good business. She decides to start a business that would pose as a modeling agency. Her models would actually be corporate spies and gather information for or about her clients.
The Argon Gambit
Namera, Doneeta, Jennyria, Mira, 2XLEG-6, and meet Kalmor as they celebrate selling the last of the cargo given them by John Smith. Jason Grant approaches them as they celebrate, and explains that his employer, Senator Zimmerman, is being blackmailed by a local con artist named Kashkanun. He asks the heroes to retrieve what Kashkanun is using to blackmail his employer. he explains that the situation on Janosz is quite volatile, and doing it too soon could spark riots, but doing it too late would make the retrieval meaningless.
The heroes decide to stake out Kashkanun, and see where he lives, works, and hangs out. They expect him to live in a fancy villa, but find he lives in a hotel room at the starport. They also find he seldom leaves his room, except to go to the Traveller's Aid Society, near his hotel. The hotel is part of a large chain, but this one is not very profitable, and relies on the small police station next door for most of it's security.
Since investigating Kashkanun lead nowhere, the party decides to learn more about the local government. They find that the world is run by a council of three senators. Grant's boss, Senator Zimmerman, holds the majority, and is a former Imperial. He was on the previous council when Janosz was given to the New Republic. Senator Chin is the newest member of the council, and is strongly pro-republic. The third senator, Senator Samuelson, came to Janosz from Corellia in the last years of the Galactic Civil War, from a world near Corellia. He had ben the swing vote on decisions. In the last year, all his votes have been pro-Imperial.
The party concludes that Senator Samuelson must also be being blackmailed. They assign Namera to follow Senator Chin, and Mira to follow Senator Samuelson. Kalmor talks to the manager of the Starpport hotel, Donya DeTivo. He finds that the bored businesswoman is eager to help, in exchange for a share of the excitement. Kalmor decides to take Ms. DeTivo to the Traveller's Aid Society while he tries to learn more about Kashkanun, and the Senators. Kalmor learns that Senator Chin had been to the club with Kashkanun, and that Jason Grant had been there with a local police officer. While Kalmor is at The Traveller's Aid Society, Namera is beat up by 4 Mercenaries, who warn her to stay out of affairs that do not concern her.
Kalmor and Namera decide they should talk to Senator Chin. The Senator is alarmed by two Jedi coming to her office, but decides to use them to her advantage. She explains that previously, Senator Samuelson had been the swing vote, and voted pro-Republic as often as he had pro-Imperial. This changed about a year ago, and he started voting exclusively pro-Imperial. They would be voting to oust her from the council in four more days. She decided that somebody on Senator Zimmerman's staff must be blackmailing Senator Samuelson, and so asked Kashkanun to find proof that Zimmerman had been blackmailing Samuelson. Kashkanun discovered, instead, that Zimmerman's long-time mistress, was a member of the Imperial Remnant. The con man decided to have fun with this information, and started blackmailing Senator Zimmerman. When the heroes showed up, and started investigating, Senator Chin decided they must be Imperial agents. Jennyria visits a number of taverns frequented by the military, and learns that Senator Chin has been hiring mercenaries for protection because she believes the local police are corrupt. Jennyria also meets a retired ship's captain that claims he met Jason Grant during the Galactic Civil War. he claims Grant was an ensign in the Rebel Alliance, and had a different name. When he tried speaking to Grant about that time, Grant insisted he must be mistaken.
Namera decides to visit the Traveller's Aid Society, and see if she can make contact with the local nobility. She learns from an older baroness that Senator Samuelson should be almost 80 years old and that he must be using medication to stop the aging process. The Baroness confides that such drugs are hideously expensive since the Civil War, and the Senator could not afford such drugs on his salary from such a minor world.
The party finds the last piece of the puzzle when Doneeta visits lounges frequented by free traders. She finds a merchant that admits to smuggling anagathics. Doneeta convinces the man to reveal that his biggest customer is Jason Grant, but he believes that Grant must be giving the drugs to somebody else. The party realizes then that Grant is an Imperial Agent. He got this job during the civil war to monitor Rebel activity. He stayed on when the Imperial Remnant gave up the planet. Grant had devised a way to control Senator Samuelson by becoming his sole supplier of anagathics. He forced the senator to vote pro-Imperial, so that Senator Chin could be voted off the council, and replaced with a Imperial puppet. When Zimmerman's mistress was discovered, Grant saw his former ally as expendable. He hired the heroes to steal the information from Kashkanun, and have them arrested by the corrupt police officers. There, the evidence of Zimmerman's affair would be made public, and he would be forced to resign. Senator Chin's role would be revealed by the paper trail, and she would be removed as well. This would leave Senator Samuelson, who Grant controlled. Grant could then arrange for two new Imperial Puppets to fill the vacated seats, and he would be elected Moff.
The heroes meet with Senator Chin, who decides to beat Grant to the punch, and holds a press conference, exposing the Imperial Agent and his blackmail scheme. She then arranges for the heroes to be safely transported off planet. Kalmor asks the Senator to give a award for good citizenship to Ms. DeTivo for her role in uncovering the corrupt police officers.
Casual Encounters
Monnda starts opening his own business to handle starship repairs when a friend from the Galactic Civil War approaches him, and tells Monnda he needs some help. His company has been experiencing a lot of accidents that seem to be staged. He asks Monnda to frequent a nearby Starport tavern and see if he is approached by anybody. Monnda accepts the offer and tells Genevus and Taki about it.
The party goes to the tavern and then spends about a week getting to know the regular customers. They discover that the regulars include the owner of a holo arcade, a doctor, the owner of a holo theatre, one of the local security guards, and two local business men. The tavern is best known for their extra strong espresso. The tavern also has 2 rooms that are reserved by customers for parties and meetings.
During the first week, Taki and Genevus have no trouble getting to talk to people. Several guys even try to convince Genevus to go to the arcade with them and take part in some of the holo gladiator matches. The local security agent, Benjamin, tries to get friendly with Taki, and she uses the force to convince him she just isn't his type. Monnda, however, is so ordinary looking, that he has trouble getting even the staff of the tavern to notice him. He complains that it takes the waitress three days to fill his orders.
The party decides they need to plant some listening devices in the meeting rooms. Instead of having Monnda do it, they decide to have Taki plant the bugs. She is caught, and taken to the local security station and interrogated. Taki learns hat the local security chief is a retired police officer, who is thoroughly bored with his daily routine. She convinces him she is trying to help him uncover a local terrorist ring, and he decides to deputize her. He then confesses to not trusting Benjamin, and assigns Taki to take over that security beat. Though she can no longer keep a low profile, the party is glad to have Taki back with them. Monnda still cannot get anybody to notice him.
On one of Taki's first days as a security agent, a number of men reserve one of he meeting rooms. Using the security devices available to her, Taki can hear them talking in a pseudo code. After regretting that Doneeta and Namera are not here to help, she summons the security chief, and he tells her they are merchants from this subsector, trying to cooperate on protecting themselves, and each other from the terrorists. Taki decides to attend this meeting, as representative of the local security, and helps the merchants coordinate their plans. She learns, at this meeting, that there are two large smuggling rings in this subsector. The first smuggles slaves, and the second smuggles a drug that raises the users charisma, but lowers their wisdom by the same amount.
Genevus decides to investigate the holo arcade. She accepts the invitation to join the holo gladiator matches. She fails miserably in the sword fights but beats eight others in chariot races, making a tidy fortune for those that bet on her. Taki investigates the gamblers, and finds that recruiters for mercenary units observe the matches. Taki suspects that the slave dealers are also watching the matches, but can not find proof. She convinces the arcade owner to let Monnda repair his two faulty games. Monnda fixes the games, and plants security devices.
Taki also investigates a shop run by two Rodian females. She learns the shop sells gear to adventurers. The shop owners are quite articulate, and Taki discovers they think other Rodians are uncouth savages. Monnda convinces Taki to put in a good word for him with the two Rodians. She does, and Monnda discovers he is getting much more than he bargained for. The two sisters start arguing over which one gets to date him while the other runs the store. They argue over which of them he likes better. They argue over which looks better in each costume. They argue over everything.
Taki also investigates the local theatre. She finds it is owned by a Cerean and his wife. Their oldest daughter sells datapads in the lobby. She learns the daughter has no clue that her parents also use the holo theatre for adult entertainment. Taki investigates them thoroughly but finds they have broken no laws. She arranges for Monnda to service some of their machines, which he bugs. The wife compliments Taki and tries to allow her to make a holo template for use in some shows. Taki begs off, but directs them to the two Rodian women, who eagerly agree.
Genevus enters another holo tournament. This time she easily beats 8 gladiators and wins another small fortune. Monnda's devices catch one of the older teen workers trying to rig the contest so that Genevus will be knocked out. Taki arrests the boy and takes him to the security station. Here, she discovers that the security woman that frequents the tavern is using the drug she learned about at the meeting. The security woman complains bitterly about having to work with her chief, and tells Taki that using the drug is the only way she can get any other man to pay attention to her. Taki tells the agent if she helps break up the drug ring, she will get promoted and can transfer away from this post. The woman agrees. She tells Taki that somebody deposits her drugs in a post office box, and she picks them up there.
Monnda watches the post office box, and finds that the same teen that tried to rig Genevus's game is taking money from one post office box, and the drugs from another. he then puts the drugs into the security woman's box. Monnda and Taki investigate and find that the money and drugs come from a business controlled by the teen's uncle, Anselm Beauchamp.
Taki convinces the security woman to recommend Genevus to whomever is supplying her with the drugs. The security woman cooperates, and leaves the message when she picks up her next supply. Genevus beats 8 more contestants in the next holo match, and is then approached by somebody telling her he has a job for her, if she is interested. Genevus asks about the job, and learns it involves sabotaging operations at Monnda's friend's business. She insists that she wants to speak with the agents boss, and finds he works for a rival firm, Incom. Genevus agrees to the deal, then informs Taki, and Monnda. Monnda tells his friend, who gives Monnda some additional capital for his business.
The Two Rodians decide to move their shop to Umi, where Monnda has based his ship repair business. He considers taking a single dose of the drug to make a holo ad for his business, but taki reminds him that while he is under the influence, the two Rodians are likely to argue over which of them he likes better again, and he may get into more trouble than he can handle. Monnda decides to just give discounts to customers that allow him to place an ad for his business on their ship.
Marooned/Marooned Alone
For the first time, nine characters are together when an older man approaches them. He explains that a local noble has decided that the nobility of the New Republic is getting too isolated from the people it is supposed to serve, so has chosen to marry the man's grand daughter, a wealthy merchant woman instead of another noble. After the marriage, his grand daughter received blackmail threats. Somebody has found embarrassing material from her college years and threatened to expose the material. The old man, Frag, has managed to steal the blackmail material, but now needs help getting it safely to his employer. The party unanimously agrees to help. They take Frag aboard their ship, and set a course for the Harlequin subsector.
As the party travels to Champa, they learn of the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion of the Galaxy, and the Death of Chewbacca. This news is especially hard on Doneeta, Namera, and Taki. Kalmor, Monnda, and Mira say it is sad that the Wookie died but they can't let it interfere with their mission. Jennyria and Genevus vow to avenge the heroes death.
A Yuuzhan Vong frigate attacks the party's ship as they try to refuel at Pagliacci. The Yuuzhan Vong board the ship and are enraged by the presence of Taki, Kalmor, Namera, and 2XLEG-6. The party decides to abandon ship. They realize they need to disable the ships power plant, and one turret, so they can escape to the planet below. Monnda and Jennyria leave the group to disable the power plant, Kalmor heads for the turret. Monnda and Jennyria shut down the power plant and make it back to the others. Kalmor finds the turret already occupied, and has to fight. He manages to win the battle and destroy the turret, but can not get back to the others. He tells them to escape, and he will try and get out on his own.
Kalmor finds a Vacc Suit with a atmosphere re-entry kit and uses it to reach the planet. He lands at the edge of a desert about 19,000 km from the planet's settled region. Kalmor manages to use his commlink to hear the Yuuzhan Vong warn the people of the planet that they will spare the planet if they turn over the Jedi that have sought shelter there. With just a holo map, and what personal supplies he could bring, Kalmor sets off across the planet.
Kalmor's biggest threat comes from getting lost frequently. He encounters the Yuuzhan Vong twice in his trek. The first time, he is nearly killed when he fights the leader in honorable combat. He scares off the leaders companions with an illusion of a krayt Dragon and a Bluff that he is also terrified of it. The second time, Kalmor fakes a cough, and convinces the two Yuuzhan Vong he is actually General Grievous, on a mission to find and kill Jedi. The Yuuzhan Vong do discover his deception and resume their pursuit.
Kalmor encounters two hunters on his trip. He convinces the first that he is also a hu8nter, and they exchange some supplies. The second recognizes him as a Jedi but remembers the good that some Jedi have done and so provides Kalmor with enough aid to recover his vitality.
Kalmor's biggest break comes when he finds some large herders that allow him to approach. He uses the force to tame one of them, and so uses it to stay ahead of the Yuuzhan Vong. he makes his way to the western edge of the settled region, and is met by a party sent by the Traveller's Aid society to find him.
Kalmor learns that when the Traveller's Aid Society found out about the award Donya Detivo got in Kalmor's last adventure, they offered to let her manage one of their branches. When she learned that the Jedi responsible for her new position was one of the missing, she dispatched a team to find him. Kalmor decides he needs to visit Janosz again to properly thank Donya for her help. One of the possessions Kalmor had on him was a holovid of the Star Wars equivalent of "Crocodile Hunter". After a 26 week journey, Kalmor decides he needs a new holovid.
The rest of the heroes, using two escape pods, land in the forested region southeast of the settled area. Monnda detects Kalmor's descent on the trip down, and tells the others their friend has escaped. The party takes inventory of the supplies from the pods, and divide them up. Genevus overhears the message from the Yuuzhan Vong about the Jedi. She warns the others, and they begin their trek by going northwest, to a river, and using the raft to cross. Frag has survived, and accompanies them on their trek. The party monitors the health of the 78 year old man, but pays little attention to his stories of the clone wars.
A Yuuzhan Vong pursuit party catches up to the heroes after they have trekked 11 weeks through forested regions. The Battle starts poorly for the heroes, as the Vong encircle them from three directions, and the first grenade Monnda throws proves to be a dud. The party recovers from the bad start. Doneeta preoccupies four of the Vong by dancing. Mira and Jennyria use their skills to intimidate three Vong into backing away from them. Monnda throws a grenade into a cluster of Vong that hope to overwhelm him, Jennyria, Genevus, and Mira. Jennyria uses a second grenade to thin their ranks further. Frag finally gets the party to notice he learned something in the clone wars by using the survival rifle to take sniper shots at approaching Vong, buying time for Monnda and 2XL. Genevus uses tumbling to cartwheel kick 3 Vong. Mira, Namera, and Taki use their force skills to provide support for the others.
Monnda uses his stun pistol as the battle progresses. Jennyria does some incredible shooting with her blaster rifle, saving Monnda from two Vong with Amphistaffs. Doneeta uses her dancing skills to enhance her melee attacks. Taki, and Namera start fighting with their lightsabres. 2XL unleashes his hidden holdout blaster. The Vong do poorly in this phase, one attacks 2XL, and does little enough damage that it does not penetrate the power droid's defense reduction. Another throws a thud bug and does just as poorly with it's damage roll. Genevus engages a single Vong in one-on-one combat.
The last phase of this battle has more lightsabre action from Taki and Namera. Doneeta uses her new Defender Pistol to help 2XL and Taki. Jennyria demonstrates the most effective way to use a vibro dagger by killing a Mid-Level Vong Warrior in a single round. Monnda and 2XL help Genevus finish off the Vong she had been fighting one-on-one.
Doneeta seeks revenge for Chewbacca's death by killing a helpless prisoner, earning a Dark Side point for herself. Taki and Namera manage to calm the Twi' lek down, and convince Doneeta to use her craft holo art to make a propaganda holovid showing that the Vong can be beaten. Doneeta starts her work, using some of the recordings 2XL made during the battle, and some interviews she did. Taki, Jennyria, and Genevus tie up the three other surviving Vong, and prepare to resume their journey.
The party comes across a vast swamp that they choose to circle around, taking 2 weeks to do so. They encounter a party of planetary residents that are looking for them to collect the bounty offered for their capture. Doneeta and Namera convince the people that they are strong enough to defeat the Vong, if the people let them go. Doneeta convinces one of the people to take a copy of her holo disk back to the starport to distribute for propaganda.
The heroes are not able to convince the next party of residents to let them go. The heroes take more damage fighting the residents then thy did the first group of Yuuzhan Vong. Frag is killed in the fight. The party kills four residents and stuns three others. They tie the survivors up. Shortly afterwards, they find enough tauntan-like animals for the party to have mounts. Genevus, Mira, and Taki calm the animals and convince them to become mounts. Monnda, Genevus, and Mira build a cart to transport 2XL on.
Monnda studies a datapad and money clip that Frag had with him. He finds that the money clip is actually a cleverly disguised datapad. This pad has what is being used to blackmail his granddaughter. Monnda discovers that Anselm Beauchamp is involved in the affair, and begins to understand what he uncovered on his previous adventure. He also finds Frag's comments to his grandsons about the women in this party. His notes include the fact that Namera is engaged, Taki is still mourning the loss of her husband, and that a merchant prince from Bespin has plans for Genevus. This discovery startles Genevus, because she had always liked the merchant prince but always felt she was not "lady-like" enough for him. Jennyria discovers that Frag has recommended her for his two grandsons. Doneeta is offended by Frag's comments. He describes her as a manipulative gold digger. Namera points out how accurate Frag's information is about everybody else, and suggests maybe Doneeta should take up a cause that would improve her image.
The party makes good progress the following week, and encounter another party of residents. Doneeta, Namera, and Taki work together to convince the residents to let them pass. This group of residents is very fearful of the Vong, and accuses the Jedi of being self-absorbed. Doneeta finally convinces the residents that if enough heroes can work together, the Vong can be defeated.
The party then encounters another party of Vong pursuers. This party is more experienced. Four of the disgraced warriors from the first encounter attempt to regain their honor by attacking the party from the rear. Jennyria notices them, however, so the party is able to form a defensive circle and face all the attackers.
With no grnades, this fight is much harder. Jennyria, Doneeta, and Namera all take damage from the Vong weapons. Jennyria is nearly crippled by the poison. Taki, also gets hit, but somehow manages to resist the poison. Even 2XL takes damage this time, as a Vong snares him with Borash Jelly, and hits him with 2 Razor Bugs. Jennyria shoots a single Vong warior 3 times with her blaster rifloe, and sees him survive.
The Force is with the heros, however. Taki and Mira take turns using Battle Mind to support the party. Mira uses Force Defense to try and protect Jennyria. Genevus does three of her cartwheel attacks in this battle, and kills one of the disgraced Vong. Doneeta uses her own tumbling skill to escape from a melee that nearly kills her. She also manages to steal an Amphistaff from a distracted Vong Warrior. Namera gets some critical hits that cuts an arm and leg off one Vong, and an arm and both legs from another. Taki manages to hold off three Vong Warriors, and cuts both arms off one of them. Namera channels the force through her longsword, and electrocutes a disgraced Vong with it. Monnda manages to stun two of them with his stun pistol, and is ratteled when a Vong he hits solidly simply shrugs off the stun beam. The fight ends when Jennyria hits the last Vong Warrior three times with her blaster rifle, scoring 2 critical hits. Only two of the eight veterans, and four disgraced Vong survive. Doneeta makes another holodisk to use for propeganda.
