Michigan Animal Control Shelters that provide animals to class B Dealers for research and experimentation
In November -December 2007, American Humane's Office of Public Policy conducted a phone survey of all municipal animal control shelters (over 100 shelters) in Michigan to determine whether live dogs/cats are provided for free or for a fee to Class B Dealers or directly to research facilities.
The results showed that only five (5) shelters
currently provide live animals for experimentation.
Eaton County Animal Control- sells dogs and cats
Gratiot County Animal Control - gives dogs and cats for free
as a favor to R&R Research
Mecosta County Animal Control - gives dogs and cats for free
to the dealer
Montcalm- County Animal Control- sells dogs and cats
Osceola County Animal Control- gives dogs and cats for free
to the dealer
Three counties provide euthanized animals to Class B Dealers:
Allegan County
Iron County- only cats
Saginaw County
Pursuant to Michigan Department of Agriculture records, the numbers of
dogs/cats provided for research have declined in recent years:
