Michigan's Humane Societies:

At last count, Michigan had fifty humane societies; the majority of which shelter homeless former pets and attempt to find new compassionate households for them. There are a few humane societies in our state though, that do not shelter former pets, but work with their communities to help people to understand the needs of pets and animals and help to find spay or neuter (sterilize) resources.

Unlike twelve county and three municipal "Animal Control Facilities"  in Michigan, humane societies DO NOT sell animals to biomedical research facilities or class B dealers (who in turn sell these former pets to research facilities).
