Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant

We can give you the funds you need to improve the care of animals in your shelter with a Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant.

The Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant was established in 1969, in memory of Tressa Meacham, to provide financial assistance to agencies for shelter expansion or improvements. Grant money must be used to increase and/or improve the quality of care given to animals. Grants may be awarded in any amount up to $4,000.

The Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant can help with projects such as:

Eligibility for awards

Grants will be made only to animal care agencies duly incorporated and classified as 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations or public (local government) agencies. Agencies must also be current members of American Humane at the Agency Member level to qualify for a Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant.

Meacham grants are awarded only for construction, capital improvement, or equipment that directly impacts the welfare of animals in the shelter. Meacham grants may not be used for supplementing an agency's operating budget, reducing deficits, purchasing vehicles, or for routine maintenance.

A complete list of supporting documentation and additional requirements are listed on the Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant Rules and Regulations. The next deadline for Meacham Foundation Memorial Grants is February 28, 2007. Grant requests will be accepted from January 1 to February 28, 2007.

Accountability

Organizations receiving funds for any purpose are accountable to American Humane for use of the grant monies. At the completion of the project, or one year after the date of the award (whichever comes first), the grantee must submit a report indicating the disposition of funds and photographic or other evidence of the construction, improvement, or equipment provided by the grant. Organizations may be requested to forward copies of receipts, invoices, or other documents in support of their report.

Grant Cycle

Grants will be awarded at the end of the review process, which may take up to six months from the February 28 deadline. Organizations that submitted proposals for the 2007 cycle will receive notification by mail as to the status of their request at that time.
