Michigan Man Accused of Starting 2006 by Killing Dog—Urge Prosecutor to Ensure That Defendant, if Convicted, Spends the Rest of It Behind Bars

A Michigan man evidently rang in the New Year by fatally neglecting his chained dog outside his home. Your letters to his prosecuting office may help ensure that the man, if convicted, rings in 2007 in a jail cell as cold as his heart may be.

David Lentz, 62, of Grass Lake Township reportedly faces felony charges stemming from authorities' alleged January 3 discovery of the remains of his dog, who was chained to a post on his Grey Tower Road property. According to news sources, a necropsy apparently revealed that she had starved to death and that her stomach was full of sticks, stones, dirt, and sand. An investigator evidently concluded that the dog weighed less than two-thirds of her healthy body weight.

If convicted, Lentz faces up to four years in prison—where, if he is kept in solitary confinement, he may better understand the lonely misery that his dog may have died in—and the permanent prohibition on his ownership and possession of animals allowed by Michigan penal code.

If you agree that a man convicted of the neglect that Lentz is accused of deserves these measures, please share your thoughts with Jennifer Lamp, who is prosecuting Lentz.

Please also remind Lamp that the apparent prolonged and utter disregard for life that animal abusers heartlessly demonstrate with their crimes crosses species lines, leading to similar criminal consequences for human dependents:
