PERMISSION TO CROSS POST TO
PEOPLE WHO CARE FOR PETS (all comments are paraphrased to the best of my
memory):
Anti pound seizure advocates in Jackson county, Michigan went to a county
committee meeting on Dec. 5, 2005 because we learned that pound seizure was on
the agenda (no one officially invited us). There were rumors circulating about
holds being placed on animals but we weren't certain by who (dealers and
research?) or when any hold would begin (did it mean after the holding period or
before?) We attended the meeting and at the beginning one commissioner spoke
and said that he was not in favor of any holds being placed and neither was the
dog dealer.
We are not really sure what occurred here but a dealer was present. One
commissioner asked the dealer in front of everyone why did he come then? Pound
seizure was barely discussed at the meeting--one commissioner said they could
change a resolution but no one went for it so it never moved to the full
commission vote. It's difficult to know what really happened, but I believe the
"hundred" emails the commissioners got according to one commissioner by pro-pet
people, and a good showing in person on such short notice by people may have
stopped something unfair for our pets from happening!
