Stop Shooting Doves e-Newsletter Update - October 2005

In this issue:
1) Recoup and Regroup!
2) Announcing our Holiday FUNdraising items!
3) Thank You Thousand Dollar and Thousand Endorsement Points Club Members!

1) Recoup and Regroup!

Now that everyone has had time to recoup a little from the grueling-yet-successful petition drive to protect our doves, it’s time to…REGROUP!

As you know, the NRA, the Ohio U.S. Sportsmen Alliance and other dove-shooting proponents have been very busy aggressively organizing in hopes of defeating our grassroots citizen effort in 2006.  They have pledged to spend upwards of three million dollars to confuse voters with fear-based attack ads based on misinformation that has nothing to do with the issue of mourning doves.

Therefore, we also need to do a lot of organizing -- and FUNdraising!  We also need many more endorsements (pdf attached).

Endorsements=Votes on Election Day!

Endorsement lists are often what undecided voters use to gauge the level of public support an issue has.  More public support means more voters will feel comfortable VOTING NO Shooting Doves on the 2006 mourning dove referendum
.

To help us regroup, a series of special, invitation-only “second-half kick-off” meetings will be held around the state in October, where we will discuss Round Two of our fight to save between 200,000 - 300,000 mourning doves each and every year in Michigan!

Mike Markarian, Executive Vice President of External Affairs for the Humane Society of the United States will be our special guest speaker at most meetings.

Invitations will begin arriving over the next few days to participants and volunteers.  If you receive an invitation (which details specific times/locations), please make every effort to attend!  If you do not receive an invitation and would like to join the effort to protect Michigan's mourning doves, please call the Committee at (517) 321-DOVE for details.

If you and your efforts have been missing for a while…THE DOVES URGENTLY NEED YOU BACK!

2) Announcing our Holiday FUNdraising ITEMS!!
