Warn Michigan Prosecutor Against Going Light on Alleged Sheep Rapist

Please respond promptly and forward as appropriate.

Jeffrey S. Haynes, 42, of Battle Creek, Michigan, faces charges stemming from his alleged January 26 sexual assault of a sheep on her guardian's Bedford Township property. According to news sources, Haynes sodomized the animal that evening. The sheep's condition and whereabouts remain unknown.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reported on September 27 that Haynes has three prior convictions and thus, if convicted on these charges, could be sentenced to life in prison.

The responsibility of prosecuting the defendant falls upon Tamara Towns, an assistant prosecuting attorney in Calhoun County. Please graciously remind Towns—who is reported to be negotiating a plea deal with the accused's defense attorney—that the safety of the community and its animals may well be in her hands. Respectfully ask that—should Haynes be found guilty or enter into a plea deal on the charges—Towns work with the court to take the following actions:

• Incarcerate Haynes for life
• Order him to undergo psychiatric evaluations and subsequent counseling at his personal expense
• Bar him from all future contact with animals

Impolite correspondence will compromise our request:
