Subject: injured animal

I spent an extremely frustrating Saturday afternoon attempting to find help for an injured swan on D Avenue near Westnedge in Kalamazoo.

I contacted the Kalamazoo Nature Center, the animal was less than a mile from them, and was told they don't pick up injured wildlife, and that ten (10) other people had called about the bird.  I think "nature" is a misnomer.

They referred me to the DNR, but only after I inquired about another source to call.  That was the RAP hotline with, of course, an answering machine.

Next I called the Kalamazoo Sheriff's Dept.  because I could NOT find a  number in the phone   book for animal control.  AGAIN, and answering machine with no options that applied to the situation.

Apparently, it is unwise for an animal to be injured and in need of help on the week-end.  IF it manages to survive until Monday MAYBE it will be fortunate enough to receive attention.  I think it is disgraceful!
