Pam Keehbauch, 52, of Deerfield Township, Michigan, faces charges stemming from authorities' reported August 20 discovery of as many as 79 malnourished and dehydrated dogs—as well as the rotting remains of several dogs and six horses and goats—in deplorable conditions on her West Bluegrass Road property, which is said to double as her puppy mill. According to news sources, at least one of the dogs rescued that day has since died. Many of the survivors were said to have been given maggot-ridden food, confined to waste-strewn pens, and were reportedly ill or injured. Some were evidently losing their skin and fur, and others were apparently suffering from eye infections, open wounds, or missing part of an ear. Some animals were apparently and alarmingly left in the defendant's charge, and the whereabouts of 13 additional dogs remain unknown.

The responsibility of prosecuting Keehbauch falls upon the office of Larry Burdick, Isabella County's prosecuting attorney.

Please remind Mr. Burdick that the vile pet-trade industry thrives on its puppy mills, that these facilities generate massive animal suffering, and that profit-greedy puppy-mill owners—when they are finally brought to justice—should never be dismissed lightly.

Please respectfully ask Mr. Burdick to work with the court—should Keehbauch be found guilty or enter into a plea deal on these charges—to incarcerate her, order her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and subsequent counseling at personal expense, and bar her from having anything to do with animals for, at the very least, the entire term of any probation she may be given, per Chapter 750.50.6 of Michigan Compiled Laws.

Impolite correspondence works against our efforts:
