Dear Michigan Activists,

Earlier, I sent out an alert to write to the sponsors of the Genesee County Fair.  I asked that you request that the sponsors drop their sponsorship of the fair due to the fair’s animal cruelty events.  The Genesee County Fair obviously told the sponsors to reply with the following message to concerned citizens:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your point of view regarding animal safety. Please be assured that in the past the Humane Society and local veterinarians have reviewed many forms of entertainment at the Genesee County Fair and have found the animals to be in good health with better living conditions than many domestic animals. The Genesee County Fair will continue to welcome the Humane Society at our event as they are important to the promotion of animal welfare.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns.”

I’m sure many of you have received this letter from sponsors.  This is, however, a complete lie!  The Genesee County Humane Society has never attended the fair’s events and was NOT invited to attend this year!  Just because veterinarians were supposedly at the events, doesn’t mean the events are not cruelty-to-animals.  The veterinarians and humane society employees would simply judge if the animals are in healthy conditions.  That says nothing about the cruelty of the events themselves.  A few years ago, The Flint Journal reported that Animal Control attends the fair’s rodeo events.  This also is not true according to Lloyd, the Director of Animal Control.

Please let the sponsors know that they’ve been duped by the GCF once again.  http://walklightly.org/gcf/sponsors.htm

Sincerely,

William McMullin

P.S.- If you are associated with a humane society, please consider writing a letter to the sponsors on your organization’s letterhead.  Thank you.
