Subject: 911 Urgent Hurricane Dennis Request

Hurricane Dennis has now hit the Florida panhandle coast at 3:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. I have just spoken on the phone with our Florida panhandle "Hurricane Relief Coordinator" Allan Kirkham with Kirkham Cattery, who helped with our last years Hurricane Ivan food relief drive. Allan lives in Milton, Florida between Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach were Hurricane Dennis full hurricane force came ashore and directly hit his surrounding area. Allan, his wife Ela and there 97 rescued cats weathered Hurricane Dennis's 120 mph violent winds and has advised that power is down to the Florida panhandle area with over 500,000 people without power, that could take up to 3 weeks to be fully restored. Hurricane damage assessment sustained on the Florida panhandle area is reported as very extensive and that 1000 National Guard troops are being sent to Escambia, Okaloosa & Santa Rosa Counties to help provide immediate "Hurricane Relief" assistance to the pubic and those affected disaster communities.

Hurricane Relief assistance will also be need to help local animal shelters and rescue groups in those disaster areas that are rescuing and taking in hurricane animals that have been lost, abandoned and surrendered and left homeless and for Feral cat caretakers in those disaster areas who are helping to provide food to Feral cat colonies that are living outside in the weather aftermath elements from Hurricane Dennis. Pets & Animals in Distress volunteers are working to come to the aid to provide "Hurricane Food Relief" assistance by arranging to transport 40,000 lbs (40 pallets) of donated Meow Mix food that will be picked up in Decatur, Alabama and delivered down to the Florida Panhandle (Milton) area to then be distributed to local animal shelters, rescue groups and communities to help feed many hungry and homeless hurricane animals. Pets & Animals in Distress will set up a pick up location for this large food donation that will be distributed this coming week. This food will be available to animal shelters, rescue and humane groups and communities who are currently helping the hurricane animals now in distress on the Florida panhandle disaster areas that were hardest hit from Hurricane Dennis.

Animal Shelters, Rescue or Humane groups that are located in the Hurricane Dennis Disaster path areas that are in need of food assistance can contact Pets & Animals in Distress by e-mail at contact@petsandanimals.org
