June is Adopt a Cat Month

Spring brings longer days and beautiful flowers.  It's also the beginning of peak “cat season,” marked by numerous litters of kittens as well as stray and unwanted cats who come to the Michigan Humane Society in need of new homes.  June is Adopt a Cat month and the Michigan Humane Society is celebrating the wonders of our feline friends while promoting the benefits of adoption.

If you are unable to adopt, you can still help homeless cats and kittens by participating in the Michigan Humane Society’s Adopt a Cat poster campaign!  Please see below for details.

Adopt a Feline Friend
Whatever your lifestyle, there is a cat or kitten sure to please. Cats are fascinating, affectionate and playful companions, each with their own unique personalities.  Appealing photos and detailed descriptions of many MHS adoptable cats and kittens (and other companion animals) are listed online.  Michigan Humane Society adoption fees are:

  • $75 - kittens under four months

  • $60 - cats or kittens four months or older

Great Adoption Package
The Michigan Humane Society’s adoption package includes:

  • Spaying or neutering

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations

  • A medical check-up and temperament testing

  • 10-day health plan

  • Adoption counselors to help you make a great match

Fabulous Feline Fosters Needed

Summertime often includes vacations, graduation parties, reunions and other family fun.  Meanwhile, the Michigan Humane Society’s need for cat and kitten foster volunteers will only increase as we receive countless litters of stray, orphaned and unwanted kittens in addition to the many adult cats in our care.

The MHS needs additional foster volunteers to care for shelter animals who cannot immediately be placed for adoption. The animals may be sick, too young for adoption or in need of extended care due to injury or abuse.  Once healthy, they can be returned to our adoption centers.  We provide food, supplies and support.  To schedule a foster volunteer orientation, call 1-866-MHUMANE, ext. 103.

Help Homeless Cats and Kittens

Last year, the Michigan Humane Society provided care for approximately 23,000 cats and kittens.  One of the oldest and largest nonprofit animal welfare organizations in the country, the MHS receives no government funding. Instead, we rely on compassionate animal lovers like you to help us continue to care for homeless animals.

The Michigan Humane Society thanks you for helping make a difference.
