Taking a Road Trip?

One of the easiest ways to help save pets is to become a transporter.  Many wonderful dogs and cats need to get from shelters in Northern Michigan to shelters and rescues in the more populated areas of the state.  If you are going to your cottage for the weekend and have room to bring back a furry friend or two for delivery to a rescue or shelter, please let us know.  email:  info@jethrosplace.org

HORSES NEED FOREVER HOMES

A rescue person took in a large number of abused and neglected horses.  She needs to find forever homes for them by May 21st.  If you want to adopt a horse please contact dogsownme@aol.com.  The horses are north of Grand Rapids and transport help is also needed.  So if you want to do a truly good deed and have a trailer and truck, contact us for information on helping to get horses to forever homes!  Email:  info@jethrosplace.org for more information.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

As I watched a mama raccoon come for a noontime treat I realized that many people mistakenly believe that raccoons seen during daylight hours are sick with distemper or rabies.  They aren’t!!!  Mother raccoons forage for food during daylight hours.  It takes a lot of calories to feed their babies.  So don’t worry if you see one during the day, they are behaving normally!

If you find a fallen bird’s nest or baby animals do not move them.  Most of the time, the parents will come for them.  It’s very difficult for the most experienced humans to successfully hand raise baby wildlife so the best option is to reunite them with their parents.  If you are certain that baby bird or raccoon is orphaned, visit http://www.jethrosplace.org/help.htm to find a licensed wildlife rehabber in your area.
