During the annual seal hunt on the ice floes off the Atlantic coast of Canada, 330,000 seals this year alone, mostly babies only weeks old, will be brutally clubbed into submission and skinned, many while still alive and gazing up in agony at their sadistic assailants. It is up to concerned Canadian activists and the international community to convey a message to the Canadian government, which sanctions the slaughter, that such barbarism cannot be tolerated. At the same time, we must raise awareness among the Canadian public of the annual atrocity so that it will apply its own most important pressure to its leaders.

Demonstrations have already been held around the world, including in Detroit, to protest the hunt. Now, a major joint demonstration of concerned U.S. and Canadian activists is  planned in downtown Detroit and Windsor during the hunt. A simultaneous demonstration held in both cities affords unique potential to accomplish both of the aforementioned goals because the proximity of the two major urban regions and their close economic and cultural international relationship. Detroit/Windsor constitutes one of the busiest international border crossings in the U.S. Nearly 30,000 commuters pass through the Tunnel connecting the two cities each day, and demonstrators marching outside the entrances/exits to the facility will necessarily be in full view of travelers entering or exiting on their way to and from Canada and the U.S. This affords participants in the demonstration remarkable potential to contribute to the abolition of! this terrible bloodletting.

Michigan and Windsor metropolitan are residents, we have the opportunity to do the animal rights movement and the cause of compassion proud. Let's have a spectacular showing at a demonstration in downtown Detroit and Windsor to protest the annual Canadian seal slaughter. Make plans to attend, and forward this information on to any contacts who might also be interested. Together, we can make a difference.
