Allegan County Michigan Animal Control Officer Charged with Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty

According to an article in the Holland Sentinel, Allegan County Animal Control Officer, Jim Garlock has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty as a result of the way he handled 2 week old puppies in the Allegan County Animal Control Shelter.  Garlock allegedly placed the unweaned puppies in a cage with hard food and a bowl of water, one of the puppies later died.  Halfway Home, a rescue organization from Grand Rapids rescued the 2 little pups from the shelter.  Sadly, Ida suffered greatly as a result of the neglect and was euthanized only 3 1/2 weeks later.  Halfway Home filed a complaint with the Dept of Agriculture, which investigated and cited the shelter for it's mistreatment of the puppies.  Garlock was fired in November, 2004 and is currently trying to get his job back using the Union Grievance procedure.  HollandSentinel.com -Animal officer accused of cruelty 02/16/05.
