i have saved about 166 lives: Hi, my name is Laura and i'm 13. I have been a veggitarian for 3 years and i'm the only one in my family. My family is Italian and its hard on me because every night there is meat so i sit there and cover my plate with salad and pasta. one day in school we were discusing how indians ate buffalo. No one in my class knew what gelitain realy was till I told them. You would think hey would say thats gross and that they would never eat jello again but they reacted like it was no big deal i was supprised! In science we had to dicect a chicken wing. I asked the teacher if i had to do the assingment she said i didn't. Then the principal walked in to see how class was going, he asked my why i was in the back of the room. i told him that i was a veggtarian and that i reffused to do this and he told the teacher to give me an F on the assignment unless i changed my mind. After he left I asked my teacher if i could turn in an essay instead. I stayed up all night and wrote a 4 page essay on animal rights and turned it in the next day. My teacher gve me an A the whole class started laghing at me and calling me names. I stood up and said " I dont care if you make fun of me becaues i save 83 lives in one year, and ive been a vegitarian for 2 years (of that date) and in total i have saved about 166 lives." then every one stoped and i was very proud of myself. ~Laura from NY

VINE EVENTS HAVE BEEN cancelled: Please pass this on to anyone who has attended VINE functions - Because a family member has been diagnosed with a serious illness and we want to be available as much as possible to assist in her care and the family's needs, we have decided it is necessary to cut back on many of the other things we're involved in. Our schedules need to be open to be there for our most important priority in our lives, our family. Consequently, as of October 2004, VINE meetings are cancelled until further notice. Sorry for any inconvenience, but we are sure you will understand. Thank you -- cindy and keith
