“Promoting the Protection of All Animals”
THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES OFFERS CAREERS WITH ANIMALS
Book as Resource for Graduates Who Want to Work in Animal-Related Fields
WASHINGTON (June 10, 2002) - Graduation and summer vacation are
times when many young people start to plan for their careers. Some of them may
have a love of animals but not know how to turn that passion into a
profession. To assist these individuals, The Humane Society of the United
States offers Careers with Animals.
Careers with Animals expands the traditional list of career options
usually offered to animal-lovers. Going well beyond the two standard choices of
veterinarian and kennel attendant, the guide illustrates 30 different
animal-oriented careers, providing overviews of the professions and their
educational requirements, interviews with
people working in those professions, "day in the life" narratives,
questions to assist individuals in assessing if a field of work would be right
for them, and resources for researching animal-related fields.
The book is divided into six sections, each covering one area of
animal-related work and containing chapters describing specific jobs in that
field. Section topics include:
* Careers at Animal Shelters - including shelter manager, animal control
officer, humane investigator, humane educator, and disaster relief specialist.
* Careers in Veterinary Medicine - including small and large animal
veterinarian, wildlife veterinarian, and veterinary technician.
* Careers Working with Pets - including obedience trainer, pet-sitter, and
pet taxi driver.
* Careers Working with Wildlife - including wildlife rehabilitator,
wildlife refuge manager, and marine mammal stranding expert.
* Careers in the Arts - including photographer, writer, and artist.
* Specialty Careers - including attorney, lobbyist, teacher, and director
of an animal advocacy organization.
Careers with Animals is available from The HSUS for $13.50 plus $3.50
shipping and handling. To order a copy, log on to
