Because there were no girls in the previous litter and
the arrangements to use a different sire did not work out, the dam's owner
decided to try a repeat breeding.
Unfortunately, unlike the first time, this litter had a
rough start and mom QT had to have a c-section due to a deceased puppy in
utero who had a condition known as anasarca. This is also described as a
'water' or 'walrus' puppy because the puppy becomes oversized due to retention
of excess water in it's body, giving it features similar to a walrus. Another
puppy was lost at birth due to it's proximity to the deceased water puppy
and the only surviving male in the litter was discovered to have a cleft
palate (also known to occur in litters with 'water' puppies) and did not
survive, so this time there are all girls.
This is currently thought to be uncommon in cardigans and
causes are still uncertain. One possible cause put forward is that it could
have some connection to the age of the parent(s) (just like the higher risk
for Down's Syndrome in humans). Other possible causes could be exposure
to a toxin at a critical stage in fetal development or exposure to one type
of parvovirus and even some forms of dwarfism which affect development could
play a role, but all of this is unconfirmed.
This information is being provided with permission of the
dam's owner and in keeping with Wyntr's ongoing policy of full disclosure
for the benefit of all breeders.

This is ST's kennel's "T" litter, so they will
have temporary baby names starting with the letter "T". This litter
also has the theme of the television series 'Star Trek' which is what the
letters of "ST's" kennel means.

"Dad" Blast secretly gives his one week old
babies a kiss while mom QT is outside.
