Jay DuBois and Friends

His Life is his music

The title of Jay's new CD is, "DIVORCE CITY ". This CD is a humorous country/folk style that takes one through Jay's life from playing in the Al Packer Band to the present. Only 17 songs would fit on the CD.

Jay has been playing music for nearly 30 years. He worked for the State of Michigan after leaving the Marine Corps but, got interested in playing guitar and played in a few bands in his spare time. The bands never made it big but, the Al Packer Band and the Michael Jay Thomas Trio enjoyed the times they played together in small bars and clubs. Jay always kept ideas for songs tucked away and eventually he would work on a song, write it down, and then put it in his files for the future. His two music idols were Loudon Wainwright III and John Prine.
During two divorces and some bad experiences with dating he managed to write a large selection of songs since song writing was his therapy in dealing with the pains he had experienced.
In 1997 the State of Michigan offered it's employees retirement at the age of 50 and Jay took advantage of it. Now he had time to put together a CD which he wanted to produce as a legacy to his granddaughter, children, and his friends. The songs that he had tucked away over the years come alive on this new CD with some songs producing the joy of playing in the bands while others show the pain that women inflicted on him; all with a touch of humor thrown in.

Through the years Jay has met many fine musicians and a number of them offered to play on his CD.
Musician's on the CD include:
(Back row, left to right) Nelson Wood, Jimmy Shellberg (also the engineer), Jack Hamilton, and Randy Hall;
(Front row, left to right) Mike Linderman, Jay DuBois, and Tom DeWitt.
Although not in the photo I should mention Karen Kidder who did a lovely vocal harmony in one song and myself, David Leedy for taking all the photos. There is a 24 page booklet with photos, song lyrics, and other information.
