Barbra Streisand
Born as "Barbara", Streisand later removed the "a" in the spelling of her name to make her stand out-- as if the nose didn't already accomplish that. In 1987, founded the "Barbra Streisand Foundation" to support liberal political causes. Champion of the poor and fighter against corporate greed, Streisand charges several hundred dollars minimum for a ticket to one of her concerts, keeping most of the money, and giving the rest to rich political candidates who are also self described champions of the poor and fighters against corporate greed. The poor see none of the money (not to mention the concert) and Streisand and her toady political cronies see to it that corporate greed skips merrily along by virtue of the fact that they're not going to commit suicide anytime soon.
Quote: "How I wish we lived in a time when laws were not necessary to safeguard us from discrimination."
Anti-quote: Here's a ticket to China. Live it up in your "perfect world", dumbass.
Pluses: When spending the night in the Lincoln bedroom, every time Clinton would knock on the door whispering, "Barbra, wanna play?" Streisand would answer, "Piss off, yokel boy." She's also stunned us by being greedy, conniving, power hungry, not that bright, and despite those four qualifications, hasn't yet run for senate.
Minuses: The high-profile diva wed way, way beneath her, marrying TV actor James Brolin. That's like Margaret Thatcher hooking up with Gavin McLeod.
Rating: The intellectual knife is always stabbing, but it's so dull that not many will get hurt. "S" = low
Fun fact: Barbara Walters and Streisand once sang a duet of a song that came to be known as "Evergween."
