Mindstorms links
Matt Miller collected a bunch of Mindstorms related links, and
thought he'd share. If you have any more, post to rec.toys.lego....
Please email Matt at : mattdm@mattdm.DISCO_SUCKS.org and tell him thanks.
(don't forget to remove my personal opinion of that 1970's art/dance form before you mail)
Note that this list is obsolete and all the links in it can be found on Russ Nelson's site.

LEGO MINDSTORMS:
This is where the official Mindstorms site is now that the
product is released. For now, there's some tempting preliminary
information, including examples of very cool things people have
made. You can submit your e-mail address to be notified when
Mindstorms is ready for sale. You can also build your own "web page" if you have purchased the product.
-
LEGO MINDSTORMS News Bureau:
This is basically a press kit. Read this, and you've read the
core of every article available so far in the popular press.
-
ComputerLEGO:
Mostly the same info as above, but also has stuff about related
product lines.

LEGO Press Releases:
Keep up with general LEGO news here.

MSI Presents LEGO Mindstorms:
The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has a very cool Lego
Mindstorms exhibit currently in operation. Get information about it
here, including a few Quicktime movies.
-
Mindstorms Pages from 1998 Pitsco Catalog:
This information is largely about the educational version of the
product (which has different software, and is bundled with different
stuff), but the last page seems to be about the retail version.
-
Lego Mindstorms Internals:
For LEGO supergeeks. We're planning to thoroughly reverse-engineer the
computer interface so we can make our own software, etc. If this sounds
like fun to you, join the list!

Not-Exactly-Mindstorms Related Links:
-
The MIT Programmable Brick Project:
The research project from which Mindstorms grew. Lots of information
here, in geek-digestible form.
-
NASA LDAPS:
"Lego Data Acquisition and Prototyping System", designed for earlier
Lego Dacta computer-interface sets, which used the same sensors, etc.
And, the LabView software they use is apparently the same as that for
the educational version of Mindstorms.
-
Techno-stuff:
The Techno-stuff company sells non-Mindstorms Lego robotics kits. This
isn't for the Lego Purist, as they use "regular" servos, motors, and
sensors to which they've attached Lego pieces. These are controlled
directly by a computer, either via wire or infrared. (There's no
"programmable brick".) This might be a good alternative for some
applications.
