From Celtic to Big Band - I love it all!!!

I grew up watching my Grandfather playing piano, fiddle, saxophone, etc. and singing solos in church. It was only natural that I would enjoy music for the rest of my life and I have tried learning to play numerous instruments. My musical knowledge probably started with singing in church from a very early age. Playing in school bands from the age of 10 increased my appreciation of music and enabled me to at least read musical scores. Now I find an instrument of which I like the sound and try to learn it. My wife was amazed when I purchased a violin and she could recognize tunes I was learning the first day that I got it. My fiddle playing is limited to Irish and Scottish tunes. My newest musical venture is playing bass guitar, harmonica, and singing in a two piece group with my good friend Jay. Check out our group on my new page called "A Tad Different".

Here's a small sample of my tastes in music

My good friend Jay Dubois had a very good year in 1997. The State of Michigan offered him a retirement at the age of 50, he produced a CD called "Divorce City ", and he managed to move to Arizona for the winter. Who could ask for more? Click on the icon at the left to see the page I made for him.
I met Jack Hamilton while I was doing the photography for Jay's CD, Jack was doing some of the instrumental work on the CD. We rapidly became good friends and he came to my birthday party last year to play and celebrate. Jack is probably one of the best musicians I have ever known. You definitely need to check out his webpage by clicking on the treble clef at the left. The photo was taken at the 1997 birthday party at a motel in Taylor, Michigan.

Left to right: Jack, myself, my wife, and our friend Mary.
Here are some links to our favorite musicians. Not all the sites have sound clips but they are still interesting.

Enya is from Ireland and has a very soothing effect on one's soul. Her voice and music portrays a more serious and soulful side of Celtic Ireland.

The Chieftains are my favorite Irish group. We saw them in concert a few years ago and Sean Keane's mastery of the fiddle blew me away.

Clannad is another Irish group that shows that Irish music is still being written and is just as good as the older music.

Capercaillie Is a relatively new Scottish group similar to Clannad in that they are performing both new and old works of Celtic music, primarily Scottish.

Windham Hills is Windham Hills...a collection of musicians and original musical works for the new age crowd. There is no describing a single style since there are many on this label.

The Moody Blues is Jennifer's favorite group from Britain. We listened to them a lot during the 70's in both Scotland and England.

Irish and Celtic Music Links is a great place to find links to most Irish and Celtic musicians.

Bagpipes at Best is a great place to find bagpipe music in midi format.

More to come in the future!!! Check back often!!!
