Before the turn of the century Crockery Township had several business ventures that manufactured and exported their products out of the Township. They included the handle and chair factories, a brick yard as well as several sawmills. Later on mos t of the business operations geared themselves to service the local community. By the end of WW2 several small operations began to spring up. Wierenga Manufacturing is one of those, starting in the early l970's as a one man operation. David Wieren ga started his shop to do kitchen cupboards and other custom work for the local people. He was soon making ecology clocks selling them both locally and on the wholesale market. Over the next twenty years more than thirty thousand clocks pa ssed through the shop, being a great favorite of seed companies, they shipped them all over the world, Japan South America The middle east , Europe as well as Canada and Mexico. He is no longer making clocks but states that if a large enough order came in he might again tool up for a time. In the 1990's his emphasis has been on store fixtures and display counters for stores, putting them in many stores through out the mid west states. His business is still a one man operation with only an occasiona l part time help. He likes it that way and plans to continue as in the past.
