For years the Peterson family held a family reunion at the Peterson homestead. I have no idea when it first started, but by the middle nineteen twenties the families were growing larger and there was not to much for the smaller chil dren to do so It was decided to have the get together at Wolf Lake where there was swimming and soft ball diamonds available. The first I can remember going there was in about 1925 or 6 . Held on the first Sunday in august.
At first Matilda {grandma Peterson} and her nine children with their growing families attended. The number present grew to close to seventy. But over the years some have found other interest so the number stayed at around the seventy mark. One by one the children have passed away, until now all are gone . Now many of the fifth and sixth generation fill the ranks of those present.
The traditional pot luck dinner followed by softball games and swimming. along with a occasional horse shoe game have filled the day, And in late after noon a ice cream festival for everyone . We throw dieting away for the day and indulge to our hearts content. 1995 saw the usual number present.There are few families that can boost of having a family reunion that has lasted nearly eight decades. We are proud of our heritage.
