THE SPOONVILLE GUN CLUB

The Spoonville Gun Club was started in 1932, on land owned by Fred Fritz and his father Luther Fritz, in sections 28 & 33 of Crockery Township. Later additional land reaching as far East as the Crockery Creek area was leased from neighboring farmers to increase the available hunting space.

Dues were originally set at $5.00 per year and the membership consisted of local people and was limited to 40 only.

The club was incorporated in 1937 under the original name of "THE SPOONVILLE GUN CLUB". Membership, however, was still restricted to local men and their sons.

In 1940 membership was opened up to include hunters from outside the Township and at present most of the members are from out of town.

Originally only waterfowl and small game were hunted, but since the early 1960's, deer hunting is also included on the hunting club lands.

In later years, sometime in the 1960s, a clubhouse was constructed which is still in use.
