ABOUT the ARTIST

I've created a small virtual art gallery so that friends,  acquaintances and anyone who gets to this page by serendipity can see my original oil paintings.   The internet certainly offers a wonderful opportunity for individuals seeking attention.wpeE.jpg (24251 bytes)

I paint two types of pictures:  figures and still lifes.   Under threat of pain I would admit that I have done a few landscapes, but then again, maybe not.  The reason that certain subjects appeal to certain artists is a mystery to me.  The human figure is by far my favorite subject.  Figure paintings differ from portraits in that they may not necessarily show a likeness to the model--especially when I paint them (just kidding.)  Actually sometimes they do, but that's not theWB00792_.gif (728 bytes) point.  The beauty is in the shapes and mood.

My second favorite subject to paint is still life.  Most still lifes that I paint are simple consisting of one or two objects in a simple space.

My medium of choice is oil paint because I like the way it looks and because it is so forgiving, i.e. you can scrape it off, paint over it and keep working on it for weeks because it dries so slowly.  (Some people dislike oil paint for these same reasons.)   I also like to emphasize the fact that it is paint (referred to as painterly) by making prominent brush strokes and areas of thick paint.

I hope you enjoy this small virtual gallery and return often.  I plan to change the exhibit from time to time, or at least move the paintings around so you think it's different.  Please leave a comment, if you like, about the web site, the paintings or even the weather.   I wouldn't mind hearing a few good jokes either.
